The JD dealer who said they were exactly the same is the one who sets up all the big box store JD's in my area. Not saying he's infallible, but you'd think they'd be in the know.

Your "evidence" is the same as mine - what JD dealers have said. What do you want from me - inside video at the factory? LOL. Hey, I made my point, you made yours, that is the point of a discussion board. Not more more to say on the subject, but I enjoyed sharing differing views.

Buy whatever you want wherever you want - there are many reasons to buy from a dealer and not at Lowe's/Depot - this was just one of them. These stores are great for certain things, but I personally would not buy from them.

On a related subject,years ago, I had some windows installed in my house,they came from Home Depot. I had some issues with them,I'm under the impression if I bought the windows directly from the window manufacturer,they could be a better window because the specifications for the home improvement stores could be less to sell them for less. I know contractors who won't buy french or patio doors or windows there because of fit, quality and labor to get them installed. plowking

Except that a dishonest dealer has motivation to lie so that you'll buy from them instead of the big box. What motivation, other than honesty, would a dealer have to tell me that they were the exact same tractor?

I'm a Craftsman owner here so I have no emtion vested in this discussion at all. Just trying to get to the bottom of the issue.

I decided to put a new engine in the craftsman after looking around and being less than overwhelmed with the quality of sub $4k new tractors. My 2001 $2000 sears has a 10 gauge deck ... try finding that these days.

From my end, I would hate to think a personal friend of mine is dishonest, but I guess it can happen. He happens to be the dealer. After what happened with my powerwasher (see prior posts), what he told me seemed logical.

Interestingly, I have a New Holland diesel 40 HP with a 72 inch finish mower and a 94 inch flail mower, so I have no vested interest. I did not mean to get too involved here...I was just offering some info I was given.

For our trim work, I own a craftman rider for where my big mower decks can't reach. When it goes, I'm considering a Z - probably an exmark or scag.

Time for me to head back to the New Holland Board and the Attachment boards....
