I have plugged numerous auto and pickup truck and utility trailer tires and have never had one fail yet. The one thing I don't like about using repair plugs is that the instructions recommend you ENLARGE the hole with a rasp. While I don't mind reaming out a hole in a $20 trailer tire I worry about doing the same to a near new $90 auto radial. I think plugs are a safe repair for most purposes but if I were going to drive at really high speeds I would prefer an interior patch.
