1000 FT LB of Torque

I think the industry is asking the wrong question. The question they keep asking is: Do you want more power? The answer people keep giving (with their money) is YES!!!
What I want someone to ask is what is the "Right" truck for 80% of people. I think a less expensive, 6 cylinder diesel, tow capable, high gas millage truck would be a major hit for a company. Much like the mini-van was years ago. Not too sexy and not much to brag about, but everyone would buy one!!!

The industry is asking the exact question they should. What do you want? No company asks what do you need. Buying is an emotional process, not a logical process for the vast majority of people. You can't blame the car companies, they are in business to make as much money as they can. Capitalism at it's finest.

I'm not sure any DIESEL can achieve high GAS mileage. They have decent fuel economy though. :)

Torque management sucks if your a hot rodder but imagine if they did not have it. It controls the power off the line and during shifts. Without it you would be more likely to be breaking drive shafts, differentials, transmissions etc. is the torque management over done? Probably.

I have a 2010 Challenger that I had tuned on a dyno. It made a little over 400 ft lbs to the rear wheels. I also turned off torque management. It shifts hard now and will bark the tires on the 1 to 2 shift. Now what would happen with 1000 ft lbs of torque with hard shifts, not pulling power and boost during shifts? You start breaking stuff.

The dyno pulls were interesting. Keep in mind you lose at least 10% to the rear wheels and the old school number was 20% loss with an automatic transmission. So the numbers were not that far off but like the video says, Mustang dynos are known for lower numbers.

A man has to know his limitations.
For me, its not about limitations, its about productivity and profit margins. What scares me is when people brag about what their truck does. Case in point, F350 SRW with tandem axle 20000 lb trailer, owner bragging that he hit the grain scale loaded to 39215. Same guy, single wheel, tandem dump trailer (14000 rating) puts 3 full cords of firewood on knowing the trailer brakes dont work. Then pisses and moans because seals and brakes arent made to hold up :confused2: Idiots like that, I hope to avoid because they dont realize what a hazard they are.

It also depends on the gearing you have in the rear end of the truck when it comes to pulling a trailer, too.

RAM Trucks. Too much power. Just like the cars, they put way too many horsepowers in the engines. And, NOW they gotta ruin the truck market by being the first 4 digit torque numbers... 35,000# towing.!

Who agrees that the numbers are just too crazy now?

Ruin the truck market? Don稚 think anything about the power is ruining the truck market. Torque is key to safe towing and anyone who has run a modified truck pushing over 1000 and actually worked the truck towing or hauling will say It痴 about time the factory stepped up.

What is ruining the truck market is all the gadgets that the hair brain drivers who shouldn稚 be driving a truck to begin with think we need to manage everyday situations.
