I'm wondering about buying a JD4400 w/ 1000 hours on it (apparently those weren't abusive hours.) Is 1000 hours a lot? Will it likely need major repairs right away? I will not be putting a lot of hours on it, mainly for mowing, front-end-loading, etc., around our place. Would it be better to spend $4-6000 more for a new one? Any insights will be appreciated!

It depends on the serial # of the 4400. If it above 300,000 it is ok. But under 300,000, there have been numerous problems, especially with hydraulics. Make sure if you buy the lower ser. # range that the dealer throws in the Powerguard Extended Warranty. There is a $200 rebate to the dealer for selling this to avoid problems, so just be aware of this.

CornHusker, are there anythings I should be wary of on the 2001 4100 HST?

Thanks
