branson 3820 with fel with toothbar
Is there any problem using a pto tiller with 1000 rpm setting rather than 480? It seemed like it handled it ok and did a better job tilling.I have never used this setting and do not know when its applicable to use. I have a branson 3820 thanks, rob

I assume you meant 540 instead of 480. 540 is the standard speed for PTO equipment in this size. The main danger of operating in the 1000 range is if the equipment is designed for 540 it can damage either you, the equipment or both.
Now, on the other hand i have seen quite a few tillers that seem to compatible with just about any RPM you put into it. The tiller that I have behind by B7100 has no problem operating at 1000 RPM. So, check the owners manual for the tiller. It should tell you.

thanks for reply and correction on 540..its an old tiller, a mitsubishi, no telling how old.I had to add some length on the pto shaft to make it compatible.I accidently ran it on the 1000 rpm and it seemed to work more efficiently .I did not want to do any harm. Thanks for advice.

With it being a Mitsubishi its probably grey market. So most LIKELY it will operate at 1000 RPM with no problems.

thanks again. its been great for food plots eliminating the disking and dragging.I did get more powdery dirt with the 1000 rpm. Do you cut your engine rpm's when operating yours? Iam running what i would do with the bushhog

On my tractor 540 pto is at 2650rpm, I run stuff at 1000 pto and cut the engine rpm's.

I just got a 72 inch KK II {ALL gear} tiller and it runs just fine on 1,000 PTO gear, with the engine at about 54% of where the tach has PTO range painted on it. I should mention that I am NOT trying to till thick clay or gumbo, which might require the higher power available at 2600 or so RPM. This is with a Century C42, see other thread on tillers.
