1025R and 1023E size

Are the john deere 1025R and 1023E basically the same size except for the motor hp of course. Do they use the same FEL and have the same footprint, tire size, ground clearance, etc?

Yes. The 1025 has more HP and an improved seat, extra lights, cruise control, tilt wheel, and a tool box. Same frame, tires, etc.

The 1025r typically would come with the H120 FEL vs the D120 for the 1023e. The H120 has a removabe bucket so it is easier to swap in another attachment like pallet forks while the D120 does not. The H120 is also self parking with easy off/on where the D120 requires setting up parking stands and pulling/replacing pins when removing/replacing.

You can get either loader on either model, but I hear most people go with the H120 on the 1025r and the D120 on the 1023e. I think a lot of people go for the 1023e based mainly on price, so it makes sense to get the cheaper loader in that case.

Having looked at both models a couple years ago, I think the better seat makes the 1025r worth the price difference. The seat on the 1023e is junk.

The 1025 has a "real" position control 3 point, whereas the 1023 has a simple inching setup on the 3 point.

There are quite a few differences. The extras on the 1025 is the difference between the "R" and the "E". These designations are based on the enhancements to a bare tractor.

Best thing I like about the 1025 is the long throw for precise positioning of the 3 ph and the seat. I had a 4010 before this. It was basically like the 1023e. It would likely be called a 1019F by today's nomenclature, the "F" over the 1023's "E" because it had dual brakes.

Another nice thing that the 1025R seems to have (over what my 4010 had, and probably the 1023E) is a gentle startup of the PTO. The abrupt startup of the PTO on the 4010 likely caused its disc between the engine and Ujoint to the hydraulics to fail. Engaging the PTO on the 4010 was a slam/bam thing vs. a very gentle slow-to-speed engagement of the 1025R. I'd often had to engage and disengage the PTO 2 or 3 times on the 4010 to get the bush hog blades to position themselves properly to where they'd run smoothly. One time, I even had to stop everything and get underneath the bush hog and pry the two blades apart, as they'd gotten crossed due to the abrupt startup.
