As I was mowing the other day, I noticed my rpm's dropping. I pushed the throttle forward & it slowly fell backwards. I took the side panel off and noticed a hard rubber washer (?), between the throttle handle and the throttle mount, was worn and falling out. I tightened the throttle from underneath the dash and the throttle works fine. This happened at 106 hours. Has anyone else experienced this before & how important is the washer? Sorry if anything I've said is confusing. I'll try to post pics when I get home.

Is it still under warranty? If it is & a part fell out, then call the dealer.

Lessee... Four year warranty on a model that's 18 months old. Yep! Still covered! :)

Seriously... That's a dealer / warranty issue. Get it fixed.

I called the dealer today and they've ordered the part. Should be here Friday. I live sixty miles from my dealer & they said they would mail it to me & I could mail them the old one. They said the warranty covered parts & labor, but a trip out to my house would cost $80.

Deere should reimburse them for any service call fees. Tell the dealer you are expecting them to do the work. Period. Whatever ancillary charges there are for on site, or pick-up and re-delivery, are not your responsibility and they can bill Deere. If there's an issue with that, ask to speak with your regional Deere rep. Immediately.

Your dealer shouldn't even be THINKING about taking this approach with you.

I called my dealer and they told me JD wouldn't reimburse them for coming out & putting on a part. In the meantime, my cruise control stopped working. I called my dealers home office and they also told me JD wouldn't reimburse them for travel expenses. Now my dealer is set to pick up my tractor on Friday to fix the throttle friction disk and cruise control for $100.

That's true. Mine has a sticker on the dash that says transport isn't included.

Ask the dealer for the name and number of the Deere rep. for your area. Call them and explain that, while you can appreciate the general "policy", you would hope they understand your side as well. It's essentially a new item that has a factory-defective part. It needs to be handled under warranty, which makes it a no-cost service.

You could always contact your Attorney General's office about it to see what they have to say about being forced to pay for a service in order to get your warranty service. If the rep. doesn't give you any relief, thank him (or her) and then explain that your next step in the process will have to be to the Attorney General's office. Don't threaten... Just tell him you're making him aware in case they contact him to follow up.

Be sure to document the dates and times of conversations along with who you talked to and a general outline of the conversation (what was asked, what the responses were, etc).

The only tractor I've seen a such sticker on is a 6410 we have. We had another 6410 that didn't have that on it. I know they've come out and worked on our 7130, 8430 and 8230 under warranty and they never charged us a service call. They were just out the other day to put a new belt on our gator with 30 hours on it since it was squealing on startup since new.

I have never owned a tractor, car, truck, lawn mower, bicycle that it was not my responsibility to present the unit at the dealers for warranty service. I have had tractor dealers who would advise we will be delivering in your area on ..... and offer me a discount for pickup and return delivery with the same option. Dealers will not be reimbursed for pick up and delivery by a manufacture. Some dealers used to offer pickup and delivery but have stopped doing this, to much abuse. It costs to send a driver and a $100,000 dollar truck 25 or more miles to replace a blown fuse.

My understanding is that some dealers do that as a courtesy, which costs them money, but they are NOT reimbursed by the manufacturer.

I was told this by the various brands in my area. I was told before I bought. So...doesn't everyone know that before they buy? Or are dealers not mentioning that?

If I were a dealer, it might depend on the situation. But I would not want to be expected to eat the costs of the manufacturers errors.

It mainly a difference between dealers. Our JD dealer charges for every pickup. The Kubota L3940's glow plugs weren't working the first Winter we had it, didn't take long to tell there was a problem, anyway they came over 25 miles one-way and brought a rollback just in case. They said the dash would have to be taken apart and it would need to go to the shop. This was Friday morning and it was back by Monday lunchtime. We asked if there was a charge and they said nope just glad it was fixed and ready to go. She uses it everyday to feed her nearly 60 head of cattle and had to resort to the IH 574 while it was gone those few days. Nearly all tractors come with a sticker that says pickup and delivery not covered under warranty.

Grateful11, cool story about the Kubota glow plugs / dash repair.

As a customer, I wish dealers could pickup/deliver for free, to us. But as the warranty is contracted via the manufacturers, I would not want to be the dealer stuck footing the transport bill, especially for a lemon. There might be some situations where I would handle it differently as a dealer, but I doubt I'd be able to do that for all customers.

It's a put yourself in the other guys shoes kind of thing, IMO.

CALL THE AREA REP AND DISCUSS.

Being able to drive your car to the garage is not a useful comparison in this case because there is no corollary for your tractor. If your car "dies" and it's under warranty, guess who pays to tow it to the garage? Not you...

If the part is owner-installed, how does the old part get returned to JD for warranty purposes? What happens to that part for future warranty coverage? If the part is so easy to install that the owner can do it, why can't the dealer do the repair on site (it surely doesn't require the same investment by the dealer to send someone to do a small, on-site repair as it does to pick it up and re-deliver it)?

The reps, and the factory, need to understand that we don't all have the means to transport our machines back and forth to/from the dealer when repairs are needed.

I'd just pay them and ask for some oil or a filter when you go back to the dealer if I felt like it was an excessive fee. It costs them a lot to pick up machines. Think about the employee, truck, trailer, fuel, dot fees, registration, and liability ins. My motorcycle dealer rarely picks up machines for free unless they goofed up.
