A toothbar helps to loosen the material for your bucket and it doesnt just skim on top, it digs in. When working in the brush it can help to rip the light stuff out and then tilt the bucket down and backdrag as a rake. It was a great investment and as stated before it strengthens the cutting edge. I have a Woods brand bar on mine but there are several brands that will serve well. I would recommend that you get the replaceable teeth that pin on not crimp on. Most of the toothbars have teeth welded to a hardened steel bar about 4 or 5 inches wide and around 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. I bought mine off of EBAY from Iowa Farm implement.
