I have the aux. hydraulics on the front and use them for a grapple, auger, etc. Would like to put a front mount brush hog on. I have the 3 point adapter plate as well. I would like to know what size hydraulic pto motor I need. I suppose I'll have to mount the motor on the 3 pt adapter frame somehow and possibly alter the pro shaft length. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Well... the front auxillary SCV has around 12 gpm flow @ 3,000psi. You'll need to find a hyd motor rated for those capacities on the mower. That will be a real challange! Most skid steer front mounted hyd brush hog mowers are "high-flow" rated hyd motors.

The JD 110TLB is not rated for high-flow attachments.

Thanks AKfish. I didn't know that. I assumed since it took skid attachments..........Never too old to learn. So probably I wouldn't get the rpm's I need on the mower?

gusdust,

You would need more hydraulics than the 110 has to do this type work. I wish I could tell you it would work, it would make alot of us happy.

There are ss hyd rotary cuters today that only require about 15 gpm, but a 6' version typically runs about 3x's the price of a std duty 3 point cutter. Would possibly be acceptable for pasture type mowing but not for any heavy work at all. Better served using the rear pto with a conventional cutter if tackling any heavy mowing projects. The 110 advertised 12 gpm but the tech manual states that when testing 10 gpm is the acceptable rate, have seen machines do both but older units will be slightly lower.

The best option is to run it off back, but here (Skid Steer Rotary Cutter) they state the minimum requirement is 11GPM. It could work. There is also a guy on Youtube that had a loader mounted brush hog, I believe I found the video but "the video is no longer available because the user has shut down their account." I wouldn't put one on mine though, too much stress on it for me to be able to put a heavier duty one in the rear that will cut better.

OK thanks for all the input. I had better give this some more thought. I was hoping to use an old lightweight 5' brush hog I have to get weeds/brush on the edges of a pond, ditches and not have to take the hoe off for other small mowing jobs.

If you already have the 5' bushhog and want to give it a shot then go for it. Won't be as powerful as a rear pto mounted unit but for the purpose you have in mind patience is better than getting stuck. I can see where it would be handy I could use one myself.

How about this motor? Surplus Center - 4.95 CU IN PTO DRIVE MOTOR
Using the tech chart it says at 12gpm it will turn 560 rpm's.
4.95 cu. in.
Yes. Thats exactly what I would suggest if you want to make it work. I have the next size up since I have 17gpm capability. Havnt done it yet but my plan is as yours. You can drive a bushog at speed, but cutting torque will be rather low before you surpass your tractor relief pressure setting and get a stall. Taking it easy tho and it could be real handy. Caution on the temptation to use the hog to trim high. ALWAYS keep the bushog tilted so you are not in the plane of the spinning blades.
...Also -- You will have to alternate valving to contol the loader while running the motor - interrupt motor flow while making adjustments. And, you will need a check valve across the motor ports to allow the motor to coast to a stop when valved off to avoid damaging it.
