12 volt conversion needs for Ford 600

If I just need the tractor to run and no lights/accessories...
Do I need to do anything more involved than wire from new alternator to toggle switch to coil - and coil + to dist and toggle to to starter solonoid? and change to negative ground?
Do I need any other resistors or are they just so I won't burn lights?

I'm no expert on the old Fords but I remember a friend of ours had to have a resistor for the points. Without it he was always burning them up with the extra voltage.

Mine runs a resistor to the 6v ignition coil and points. Uses a single wire alternator. My 600 is down right now but when it goes in the garage after the massey is done I'm freshening up ignition and losing the resistor and upgrade.

Thanks, I have a new alt and single wire and a resistor before the 6V coil and the resistor just powdered away within a week. So I got a 12V coil today. Just figured I'd ask before I connect it and fry something else. It won't be my first time.

If you're changing to negative ground, the coil - would go to the distributor because one side of the points are grounded. Maybe I misread your original post.

Thanks! I was thinking that but thought no harm to ask before I fry.
Not to jinx myself but it has good compression so the slow crank with the 6V just doesn't compare to the quick start with the 12volt spark. I have an 8N that's also a working tractor but it's more the showroom babe. The 600 is the workhorse and the better pto world.
