120 hours on my M5640 and I'm hearing a tapping noise from the tranny

Should I be worried?

There have been times I have convinced myself the tractor was making some sort of funny racket and about to blow up any second. Usually it's just been an evil trick my mind plays on me. Once I was convinced the U joints were about to fall out of my RTV. I checked them myself and knew they were fine. For a little peace of mind I ran it by the dealer to let someone more qualified than myself test drive it and check them. They were not too busy so they did it while I waited, it didn't cost me a dime and I slept really well that night.

Run it by the dealer if possible. If it's nothing then you're just out a little time. If it is something then hopefully you will have caught it in time before it does serious damage.

There's definitely a noise coming from the back part of the trans, that to the untrained ear, doesn't sound normal...But this is my first tractor.
I've only used it for mowing...
It's about a 40 mile round trip to the dealer and I don't have a rig large enough to trailer it myself but I'm going to have to bite the bullet on this if I want to get some peace. I think there's a 3 year warranty on the drive train... I should take care of it soon. Thanks.

You may be hearing the a pressure relief valve.Try slightly lowering your three point and see if the noise goes away.

Lots of places where noises can originate back there, some significant and others unimportant. Try jacking the back end off the ground so you can rotate the tires by hand with engine off and in neutral to see if the sound is present. At least you may get some idea of what/where it's coming from.

This is my second Kubota and the dealer has sent someone out anytime I have had an issue at no charge. Once there was an issue and the other time nothing. I have bought a lot of stuff from him over the years and he just retired and sold the dealership. It will be interesting to see if the new dealer is as good.

Thanks for your feedback gents.... I'm only at the farm part time... will be heading up the first week of May and will check whether the position of the TPH correlates to the tapping sound. I don't think it does but I can't be sure. What kind of remedy is required for a tapping pressure relief valve? I might be able to work something out with jacking up the rear wheels but not sure at this point.

I did call the dealer and he'll send someone by to have a listen but any work would require the tractor to be hauled to the shop. He asked for 5 days advance notice. I guess that's about the best I can expect.

I briefly looked at the warranty and apparently there's three years coverage on the drivetrain.. Not sure if this is drivetrain related at this point and I'm sure they'll be some caveats and other qualifiers....fingers and toes.
