1235 Blowing Excessive amounts of White Smoke

Sitting here talking to son in law. He is wondering (convinced) if a voltage fluctuation might cause the fuel injector pump to go out of time, and pump too much fuel into the combustion chambers. Similar to the alternator in a car or truck over charging, causing the things to go haywire. If this is possible, could it be that there is a problem with the alternator or voltage regulator?

Just throwing that out there for ya..

BTW...He's not a diesel guy either. But he is pretty good with gasoline engines.

Ha, no problem.. Fuel is entering your oil possibly through leakage of the fuel injection pump, causing the dillution of your oil.

Being as the crankcase is overfull of dilluted oil, the crankshaft could be "slinging" the dilluted mixture into the combustion chambers. Or, the over full level caused excessive crank case pressure forcing the oil into the air intake system... causing the run aways. I think stopping the dilution of oil will solve your problem. If the injection pump is leaking you could be at a costly repair.

The injectors themselves are not of concern on this issue. They only inject fuel into the combustion chamber supplied by the pump.

The injection pump has no electronic influence, other than the fuel shutoff solenoid. The pump is mechanically operated by lobes off of the camshaft and delivery is controlled by mechanical linkage from the throttle.

You need to check your alternator and make sure it is funtioning properly since the runaways and battery failure. The alternator has a internal voltage regulator, when running the alternator should be putting out around 14 volts, any higher the alternator is damaged.
