Scruffy, many years ago, I had a '72 Chrysler station wagon with a 440 engine with which we pulled an 18' travel trailer. We spent a week at Toledo Bend Lake, and fortunately, decided to go home Friday morning instead of waiting until Saturday. Car wouldn't start; hit the starter and get one spark at the coil, then starter keep spinning and no spark. No Chrysler dealer in the little town of Hemphill, TX, but the Chevrolet dealer had a Yellow Pages ad; service for all makes and models and sent a wrecker for it. The service manager began telling me about the schools he'd been to and "these electronic ignitions are my specialty." Well, he and two mechanics worked all day Friday (I guess it was good they had nothing else to do), even replaced the ignition switch (another camper in the campground took me 40 miles to get it), and got nowhere. They started again Saturday morning, but couldn't figure it out. Shortly before noon, I told them I'd pay for a long distance phone call if they'd call a Chrysler dealer and see if it might be something peculiar to Chryslers. They did, and a $2 ballast resistor was in stock at the Babcock Bros. store 2 blocks from the Chev. dealer./w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif A few years later, my teenage daughter called one night when she got off work and said my '77 Dodge pickup wouldn't start. I stopped at a parts house and got a ballast resistor on the way over there, just in case; took close to 2 minutes to replace it, and go.
