I have a Curtis cab on my Kubota L4310. The fan I put in 3 years ago (bought new but sitting on a shelf for a few years for $20) sounds like its about ready to retire - noisy and needs a push start w/ a screwdriver occasionally. The fan is mounted on a ball and can be rotated to suit need.

The price for a new fan from Curtis is ~ $115 from a local dealer. Grainger offers one for $74 w/o shipping.

Is that the going rate?

You can look in the JC Whitney catalog and find one for under $30.

I may be way off base here, but I think I'd try a small plug-in inverter and a small clip-on AC fan you can buy for about $15. I have several small inverters that plug into my cars cigarette lighter. I'll check their power rating, but I think it's enough to run a small fan.

Try oiling fan motor with a silicone spray to get more life out of it.

its that old story, you get what you pay for (most of the time) I would check with your local parts store, or truck supply store and check the price of the better grade. I have tried the JC Whitney and those other $30 fans. They may last a few months, then another $30. Buy a good fan and keep it lubed and cleaned.

go to a NAPA parts store the have them in stock or they can have it the next day

If lube won't fix the fan, consider replacing the bearings/bushings on both ends of the armature. Provided you don't wait until it had gone too far before replacing the bearing/bushings, you should be able to get a little more life out of it.

Try West Marine. A good marine fan will last as they are usually sealed.

Buy a 4" computer 'muffin fan', they are all ball bearing designed and are merely 1" thick.

The big bonus is that they draw less than 1 amp and also push a lot more air than paddle blades.

They generally are available in 12VDC as well as 110AC.

Also MUCH more compact.

Good luck, Ebay should be a good source.

Expect to pay about $10.00
