Tragic ... 13yo is too young. I can't imagine what the Parents / Family are going through.. sorrowful.
My thoughts are an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) unit may have saved this child.
There was a case here in Denver where a radio talk host saved a mans life with the unit he keeps in his car. I think they cost about $1500.00 or so... I don't have one .. but things like this make me wonder why not.

Very sad indeed. But life is a gamble and things and accidents do happen, we can't put kids inside a lexon protective bubble to protect them forever.Then the other side of the coin, society does everything to protect them when they are adolescents but when they are 18 we send them off to war to die, go figure.

Cal it a freak accident, whatever else you want.
Forget the "sports" orientation and any patriotism about national pastimes for a moment.
Forget too the fond memories of what we did as kids and got away with only a few scrapes.
It is still PREDICTABLE that young teens throwing hard objects with all their might in the general direction of each other will (statistically) lead to some number of serious injuries and deaths.
I am not a big fan of "Helmets for anything/everything", but Murphy being ever present, whatever CAN happen eventually WILL happen.
Safety vests to protect the rib cage ARE showing up in more and more "Sports".
BTW, I don't know if it is still true, but supposedly at one time more people got killed playing cricket than in the boxing ring.
