1301d vs 226d

I have a 1301d that I am a bit disappointed in. It seems too small to scoop up dirt/gravel.
I am looking at a 226d 4x4 that I am hoping will serve this task better as well as field mowing and tilling. I would appreciate any feedback as well as things to look out for. Thanks!

See my sig photo below. I have Yanmars similar to both of those. Loaders on both.

The YM240 will do anything you described but as a manual transmission, its a nuisance to never be in the right gear for the various slopes in my orchard. Full stop, shift, run 100 ft, full stop, shift .....

Then I bought the YM186D for its lower height (orchard) and PowerShift. It's a little underpowered for tilling, and for mowing going up a slope, but I use it 90% of the time and have dedicated the YM240 to carrying the backhoe and occasional heavier lifting.

These aren't perfect comparisons to what you are asking but a 1301 to me seems a little too small for my applications - till, mow, pull a one ton watering trailer, grade the lane, occasionally put forks on the loader bucket to unload something. Seems to me a 1301 is better suited to a big vegetable garden, or grounds maintenance, instead of these heavier tasks. While YM1510D/YM186D is the smallest 'real tractor' that you just use without thinking about it.

I looked at Tractordata .com. Ym226D and YM240D are near identical in specs, maybe 1 hp difference. So essentially identical.

Hmm. I should get one 226D to replace my fleet.

Did the same with an upgrade. "Garden Tractor" in a couple yrs. it was showing wear. My Ym2000/240 was right at the same as the old N series fords. I can't be exact since our 9n was upgraded to a 6Cyl.. The org. 9n was 22Hp. and the 8n. 30hp.. Don't hold me to exact specs. but my Ym2000 24Hp. Just smaller which was a big plus. Plain jane as it can be but still use it to the day.

It wouldn't expect much from a YM1301. It's a true SCUT (SUB-Compact Utility Tractor). With your needs, a real CUT (Compact Utility Tractor) is ideal.

Keep with a 3-cly diesel as a minimum. And a YM2310 model as a minimum.

The YM226D 3-cly and a tiller is somewhat questionable. Ideally the YM276 shines with a tiller.
The 3T75HA is not as strong as any of the 3T80 or 3T84 engines that do great tiller work here in North America.

The YM226 would be just fine for mowing.

The one difference is weight. Ballasted up an N will weight 2x what a ym2000 will weigh which it was designed to pull ground engaging equipment in row crop operations and that weight will allow it to out pull out Yanmars. But we probably can outperform an N with the torque and effeciency of the 24hp diesel. I'm thinking an 8n was like 26ish HP? But close enough we're in that 25 to 30 range.

To the OP I think the 226 will perform what you want better than the smaller 1300 which is more of a tilling tractor.

Good stats. My YM2610 sips fuel way better than the neighbors 8N gasser. We had done a property line project we both worked on together. He had to refill his machine 2X and I kept going. The 2 machines are nearly evenly weight too.

The stats of a JD850 to an 8N would be the gem here.

My boss when he lived in the country had a JD1020 which was a 60s era JD row crop tractor. I believe it's in the 30hp range. He basically 99% finish mower his yard with it, once a week, now that was like 6 or 7 acres of grass but if I remember right he used something crazy like 10 to 20 gallons a time to mow. When I was talking to him about it and he asked about my tractor. I said I'd probably use a little over a tank of fuel to cut what you cut. And he said how big is your tank. I said 5 gallons! I said yes it will sip fuel.

I was stated don't hold me to exact specs.. Said there was a size difference and know can't use Tractor data to be 100% correct. Example my Ym2000 is rated more than 20 HP. Eng..which they have it rated. Twice so it's not a Typo. There was a Piston upgrade 88mm. to 90mm. and only 2 cyl. I don't think that will build 2 more Eng.Hp. each cyl.. Fredricks and Hoye 24hp. Hard for me to lift a full 5 gallon can filling the tank so I purchased a 2 gal. can Yrs. ago. I cut 3 acres Wkly. My use is so small it's hard today to guess just how much fuel I use cutting. My guessstimate 1/4-3/8 of a Gal. each cut. My sears garden tractor was twice that much in gas. True!!......
