Hello JTXN, you have an early model (1964 - 1971) which came out with a generator. Standard practice is to upgrade to an altenator when the generator wore out.
Looking at the fan belt, is the altenator adjusted ALL the way out on the adjustment bracket? If so then the fan belt is too long for the job. However looking at the first photo, the altenator adjustment bracket appears to be the wrong one. It does not match the one on my 135 altenator. Are the altenator adjustment bracketts different between US and British models?
Yes it is all the way out on the adjustment bracket. Or was before I took it off.

Is there a number or type printed on your belt?

JTXN, I will check when I go back(to the tractor) on tuesday.

Before blindly replacing the alternator, check the brushes. Could be a simple fix and very inexpensive.

Fanbelt size is "A 57"

Before blindly replacing the alternator, get a shorter belt, tension it and read (and do) the following graphic:

Thanks for making that graphic..i will clean it out and either get a shortened belt or find a better way to put some tension on it

Cleaned and tested the alternator again. .88V at full throttle, no change with the screwdriver.

I dont think i can fit a shorter belt on it. It was very difficult to get this one on due to the mount design.

I noticed a lower adjustment arm that they used to have attached. I was told it worked for tension but made it hard to turn.

New alternator or not, I need a better mount to tighten this thing up. May have to fabricate one. 20200307_152658.jpg20200307_152704.jpg

I ordered a new 63 amp alternator from DB electrical for about $55. I ordered an alternator bracket from yesterday's tractors that said it would work for massey ferguson. It cost almost as much as the alternator.

It has better tension but its still hard to get it super tight. It self excites at about 800 RPM and puts out a little over 14V.

I might order another bracket and try to drill it out to fit on the lower lug. I'm not sure how much it would help though.20200309_130003_HDR.jpg20200309_125954_HDR.jpg

On the 135 sweep tractor (at work),the adjustment bracket is mounted at the bottom of the altenator.
