For haywork on hilly terrain using mower-Kuhn accumulator combo, I'm looking at new Massey 6475, Kubota M135X and JD6140 in that order. The 'bota appears the best value for the money by far, but the MF has desirable options that the others don't offer (ie. front 3pt/PTO) and a super beefy front end. Problem is, MF is at a stratospheric price point... a good 20-30% more than the Kubota with equal options. Is this price differential the rule for Masseys? And if so, are they that much better a machine? Thanks.

No, I'm comparing new to new. Granted, the JD is closer in price to MF but neither is near the Kubota.

I do not see how you could go wrong with any of them. Tractors and trucks are much alike. They will do about the same things in a class, one just may be better in your eyes or on paper.

Personally I would go with what has the lowest cost of ownership, not the cheapest price. Look at maintenance items, trade in values, ect. Look at what each bring in a 5 year old unit versus what they cost new.

Kubotas have been really good tractors for me!! I dont really no much about the heavy horse tractors but they should be just as good as the ones I own. but if the front pto and 3pt mite be something you maybe need later on then mite go with that tractor but for that much of a price diff. are your going to get more than you will ever use or get the tractor that will get the job you wont done at a better $$$. All you listed are good brands!!

the Massey seems like the better tractor jsut because it is a 6 cylinder. if you have hilly terrain and hay production of any kind, a 4 cylinder, like in the Deere and Kubota, isnt quit as stout. Have you checked out the New Holland T6030 or T6050, 115hp and 125hp. both 6 cylinders and great tractors.

The MF costs a lot more because its in a different class than the others compared. You're comparing a F-450 lariat diesel to a pair of 3/4 ton base model gassers, for an analogy.

Yup that 6475 is quite a bit bigger than a 135 weight wise, both curb and maximum ballasted, you may want to look at a 6 cyl 5400 series. Also can have front pto and 3 point on them.

I like Kubota's though, good hay tractors. Any of those tractors are up to the task.
