1401 or 1401D

I recently went to buy a tractor from a friend of my fathers. Well, I went with the idea that this was a 1401D that was supposed to be showing up. It turned out to be a 1401. However, I will only be using this tractor for plowing snow, tilling garden, and mowing the lawn with a finish mower. But, I was going to build a loader and put it on. Now that it is 2wd kinda screws that. Or am I wrong? I am only paying $2200 with tiller for tractor. If I could find another 1401D with tiller for that money, would probably drop this one and get it. Delivered to my door that is. Can you use a loader on a 2wd tractor?

Absolutely, you will just want to keep the tiller on all the time to ofset the weight. Go to our web site I have a picture of a 1401 w/loader on the Yanmar page www.efcconstruction.com. Did the dealer actually tell you it was a 4wd and deliver a 2wd?

Even with my 300+ pound box scraper on, with a moderately loaded bucket my 1401D just sits and spins in loose or wet soil unless I shift into 4WD. But I've got a pretty big loader for the machine (48") and the bucket sits out pretty far in front of the front wheels.

Somebody here on TBN did rough calculations on a rear weight box full of gravel. As I remember it it was 600 - 800 lbs. If your wheels spin add more weight. Just don't blow the tires./w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif
