First of all, thanks for the replies. I installed an in-line fuel shut-off ,drained the crankcase, changed the filter, refilled with oil, cranked the engine circulate the new oil. Afterward I checked the oil and it still had the faint odor of gasoline, so I drained and refilled again. cranked to circulate and then fired it up. It had some white smoke for a few seconds but then ran better than it has for a while. In fact, now that I reflect on the last 6 months, it has not been running well since the fuel solenoid started giving me problems. I have had to choke the engine to get it to run smoothly, but now that is not necessary. I would strongly advise that if you don't have an in-line shut-off that you install one. I think I was lucky in that a full tank drained into my crankcase and therefore the engine would not run, but if it had been less fuel I could have operated my engine with diluted oil and could have done major damage. I talked to a second dealer and he said he agrees with the first dealer about the alcohol blended fuels creating problems for small engines. I will post further information on the thread created about that issue.
