I tend to tell people to buy a hydro because i personally think its less distracting then a manual.

The price seems OK, but it depends on how you intend to use it. Not being particularly familiar with that model, I would question if it has a live or independent PTO. That's important for 3-PT work. Secondly does it at least have a shuttle shift? Continuous loader work is much easier with a hydro or shuttle. I recently saw a 1233 on a dealer's lot that had neither feature. It was traded before the 50HR check. Tell us more about your property and intended use. It will be easier to make a comment.

I have four acres and will mostly do yard work with the loader. I may @ some point get a post hole digger, but not for a while. I live near houston and will be using it on the weekends. I am looking for something that will be dependendable for the rest of my years .......... thanks jb

Hydro tractors are indeed very nice. I test drove several of Kubota's Grand L series before I purchased my Massey. If you are planning to do a lot of loader work (which it does'nt sound like after reading your last post), the Hydro would be the way to go. There is another consideration however and that is the Hydro loses a few PTO horsepower when compared to a gear tractor, so you probably should factor that into your decision as well.

I use my tractor to do some loader work (grading, spreading and carrying gravel for a 1000' driveway, clearing brush and dead trees and carrying firewood) and I'm quite happy with the gear transmission.

Both transmissions are dependable and will last for a long time when used properly and within their design limits. If you hav'nt driven the tractor, do so, and as your driving, try to think about what you want the tractor to do for you on your property, if this is a good experiance, You've found your tractor!/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, if not keep looking until you do.

I have to bite. If you like get it! I got my 1428v about 8 months ago, nothing but good luck! Shifting doesn't bother me i do it all day in my Cat grader,no hydro offerd in any i know no matter the make, thats another story. The sliding gear trans. has been around for ever! It will likely outlast you and me. the speeds are nicly spaced, i finish mow 4 acers and like the machine. As for the loader, plenty of power and speed, i would recomend a bolt on edge to anyone, if you wear it out simply bolt on new,no cuting no welding. Oh yes it has a live pto hence two stage clutch.
