Well I've been putting up with a slow leak for about a month now. Just this past week it's got considerably worse. This first pic is of were the leak was confined to before it got worse. It was around the bottom right bolt near the steering wheel.

pics 2 - This is what happens after about an hour of use. It seems to be coming from the top of the valve. I was wondering what your opinions were before I order a new valve from PT.

Thanks

It is actually a hydraulic steering motor, but turned manually. I believe those steering motors are around $300.00 Check out Baileynet.com

Why order a new motor, It is probably a seal leaking You could order a new motor and a seal kit and then you would have a spare, after fixing the old one.

Yeah, Highridge, go read about my adventure in the land of Hydraguide last June here, then instead of being stubborn like me, send your unit down to Terry and let him wear out his knee pads chasing little springs across the floor!. Ha! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Why does it seem like I get older faster than I get wiser?

Yeah, I'm probably better off sending the valve to PT so they can take a look at it. How hard was it to take the unit off?

Not hard. Mark the hoses and make a diagram to match. Disconnect the hoses and cap them - they may or may not be easier to get a wrench on if you free the unit from the dash by taking the 4 nuts off that surround the steering wheel and let the Hydraguide drop down a bit. The steering wheel stays with the dash. If access is tight, you might take the other end of the hoses (or some of them) off first then remove them from the Hydraguide later.

Good luck,

Sedgewood, do you happen to know if the same valve is used on the small PT models, particularly the PT-425?

Not specifically, no, but I kinda got the feeling from the parts guy at PT that they are all the same. The models with a single steering cylinder might use something different, or maybe just different cylinder geometry. I ran my 1845 a few days on one steering cylinder and the steering was way too fast for comfort as well as requiring extra oomph at the wheel.

Sedgewood, did it matter what way the unit was inserted under the dash once the hoses were recconected?
I took the valve out today and tommorrow I'll take off the hoses and ship it down to Tazewell.

No, the bolts and holes are 90 degrees apart and equidistant from the center so any ole way that will let you poke the bolts up through the dash so you can get the nuts on will do. You may have to rotate the steering wheel a bit to get it's drive key to line up with the drive slot in the Hydraguide. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
