I tinkered with the cable (Making adjustments) but a full on replacement is on the books. Just a PITA I don't want to deal with at the moment....

The drop in tire size also effects ground clearance. I have been high centered a couple of times...

I used to have a old wood post that I high centered a few times, despite the higher ground clearance.

My experience with tractors is that they tend to get used to just beyond their limits, and often. Who wants to drive all the way back to the barn to get the "other" tractor, even assuming there is an "other" tractor. :)

If it is sticky, stop by a bike (motor/bicycle) store and get some teflon cable lubricant. It could make a world of difference. If you can, try to find one that has a cable adapter to spray into the cable, as it enables you to push lubricant all the way down the cable in one go.

Champions choice cable luber is an example, but you can get them from lots of places. I prefer to use dry powder lubricants in cables to minimize dust/dirt sticking issues.

All the best,

Peter

It does not pull easily but worse it does not hold a speed (tends to drift back from 2800 to 2200). I have tightened down the holding stays but do not want to tighten much else as it is stiff to adjust the throttle.

Will try a new throttle cable eventually but at this point not a crisis.

Dear Carl,

What is a "holding stay"?

It sounds counterintuitive, but try cleaning and lubricating the plate that holds the throttle lever, and then tighten it up. (I think that you need 2 9/16" wrenches.) Unless you see cable slipping through the screw downs on the ends, throttle slippage is usually at the lever.

I had to tighten mine twice before it maintained WOT.

All the best,

Peter

Hmmm. I was referring to the clamp on the engine side that holds the outer sheath of the throttle cable. Someone messed a round a lot with it and it has been a source of throttle control issues, although I felt I had fixed it as much as possible. Have not messed with the throttle control but you are probably right.

When we get our PT, I'm thinking of Reversing the Throttle lever so WOT is at the top. I've always used tractors with throttles that way but WOT at the bottom and Idle at the top I don't really like it. Yeah I can get picky with this.

Peter, do you have the Concrete BreaKer for your Post Driver? I'd like to know how it works.

I don't have the concrete breaker. My understanding is that it is just a chisel point that cracks the concrete. My impression from Terry was that they don't sell many post drivers, and even fewer concrete breakers. That impression was reinforced by a call from him to ask how it was going with ours and what I liked/didn't like about the unit. He mentioned that they were just about to do another run of them and he wanted to see what I thought. This was about nine months after we had bought one.

FWIW: Terry did suggest bolting an I beam with a plate or 8x8 to the driver to drive posts for low retaining walls.

I don't do enough demolition to rationalize the purchase of a breaker. (Return on investment... The driver was a different story, 550 fence posts times two sacks of cement, less the purchase cost of the auger=easy sale. { And if you want to get fancy, try playing around with the npv, irr functions in excel.})

All the best,

Peter
