1445 vs. 1845

Hey Sedgewood -

I continue to be very impressed with your efforts at rebuilding your beloved PT. I am sure that you will officially be the PT expert once you get it going. I, for one, am thankful that you are willing to share your expertise with us here on the web, and in some small way, I am glad (not at your misfortune, but) that there will be an expert of your caliber among us.

Please let us know how things are going, and don't forget pictures of your adventure!

Hey Rob. Sorry for the delay. Been very busy on my new deck.

Power-Trac made a number of changes to the 425, such as:

- Larger wheel motors
- The engine is “turned around” and has a new Variable displacement pump with inline PTO pumps like the larger PT series
- The battery and hydraulic filter are now moved up to a similar position as the larger PT series
- The fuel tank is now metal and is integrated into the back half of the engine cover
- The muffler in now insulated…probably due to the fuel tank now being just above it
- There is a new style top link similar in design to the larger PT series
- And of course, the arms are now slightly longer to give a 5’ lift height

All in all, these changes make key components more accessible and move the center of gravity further to the rear to support the longer lift arms. Although I couldn’t tell the difference when I drove the tractor, the improvements are nice.

As an aside, I recently had 15 tons of gravel delivered for a project. Since I was playing with the gravel pile at Power-Trac, I wanted to see how my 425 would compare. I took my large bucket (i.e, the “light material" bucket) and was able to easily scoop an entire bucket of gravel. See the attached pic. And this is with me off the tractor and the fuel tank empty (the tractor ran out of fuel right when I took the picture). /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I'd title that picture, "Eminent Pucker" /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just kidding...

What a workhorse!

Thanks for the details on the re-design.
