Not looking for a brand war from the oil facists here. I just picked up some full syn. 15-40 for my L3130. Is this OK for my tractor during the winter? If not, I'll just dump it into my truck.

It's a bit heavy IMO. I run 5w-30 syn in my L4630 and couple it with a block heater. YMMV

I run synthetic SAE 5W40, You shouldn’t have any problems with 15W40… it’s synthetic … It is good for your truck, good for your tractor. KennyV.

I just bought 6 gallons of 15-40 synthetic blend from Texas Refinery Corp.,the dealer said the 15-40 would be fine for here in Pa., but we are a bit south from where you live.

15W-40 should be good down to -10ºF, a synthetic maybe even lower. I prefer 5W-40 synthetic oil myself.

Warmest winter on record

So far. But that Blue Norther coming right now looks pretty scary.

Even down here in BubbaLand.

Here's an idea, put a qt in the freezer, see how it pours when cold. I had some 15w-40 dino for my first oil change at 50 hours, it was about 8*F and the oil poured like molasses. I was concerned about start-up lubrication at cold temps so, I drained it back out. Now I'm using 5w-40 syn.

15w-40 would certainly be fine if you have a block heater. I run it year-round in my Dodge and use the block heater when it gets below +10F or so.
