Good points about the gas line. Thanks.

Cable modem - wouldn't it be nice.. hey 56K would be an improvement for me! (my only faster internet option is $atellite or I$DN) There shouldn't be any issues with cable at 300' distance and 25' elevation, just make sure both ends are grounded. Use good quality connectors that are weather-tight.

Mountain_man: Not sure how far apart the high and low voltage lines will be... they are going in next week if the electrician shows up. I think they are right next to each other but in separate pvc conduits. I'll let you know. These are not the main power lines, but only power for an driveway gate and security, etc.

The water is 1" copper with over 130 lbs pressure. We have regulated it down to 70 lbs (I think) at the house entry and have a residential fire sprinkler system on a bypass with full pressure. House is still under construction, so numbers are still a little vague as I've been more concerned about budget numbers.

We have an unusual circumstance where we have a 2.5" water main at the street for our avocados (used over 1 million gallons last month).

Oops... didn't answer all your questions. The ditches are on each side of the driveway, which is 16' minimum thanks to the CA regulators.

Re: 150\' trench House to Barn water-electric-phone-gas

I am in the process of doing the same thing (minus the gas). I rented a backhoe for a 165' trench for a greenhouse. It's about 5.5'-6' deep. The bucket of the backhoe was 2' wide so I am putting water on one side at the bottom and electric, cat5, cat3, and Quadshield coax on the other side 30" down. The electric and data will be in seperate conduits. All conduits and water pipe needed to be surrounded with sand so stones won't pierce the conduit.

I am also stubbing up some additional conduits for a future barn while I've got the trench opened up at the house.

I was told that it was ok to put the water and electric in the same trench here in MA. I am sure that varies in different areas.

I hope I never have to dig this up ever again. It took me all weekend with the backhoe(including some trenching around the greenhouse for drainage).

I'm trying to take pictures and document the whole building process. It's not very interesting yet, but take a look at
