1500D oil presure

I have put about 300 hours on my 1500D and had installed gauges early on. It always ran about 65psi cold, 50/55 psi when hot around 2200 rpms. Around 1100 rpms when it was idling it would see 45 psi. Recently the gauge was acting up and giving odd readings. I swapped it out and was still having readings fluctuate with lower pressure while idling. It had no new noises and was still running well but I was starting to think the pump was failing. Before getting to crazy I ordered the oil filter valve assembly. There is not much to it and it comes right out so it was worth the chance. What a difference it made. My pressure is now just over 80 psi cold and a steady 60/65 psi when hot running at any speed.

What pressure does the manual call for? Seems you are running a bit to high. Didn't the new valve come with shims for adjustment?

Each shim is to change pressure appx 2.6 psi. The following out of the 220/226 repair manual: Starting at 800 rpm, slowly increase engine speed to 1800 rpm while watching pressure gauge. If there is not a smooth increase in oil pressure, check for defective oil pressure regulating valve.

At 1800 rpm, oil pressure should be 36 to 57 psi

That's a good question Winston. I'll have to check the manual for the pressures again. I didn't find anything the first time I looked. This one is a threaded piece with a spring and ball in it. Maybe the new spring is a bit tighter. I think the old spring was worn out. It's to bad you can't just buy the spring. Oil pressure is much more steady at all rpms now.

Someone else should first throw a sender at it, the primary culprit for low oil pressure.

I'm not sure that if I still had the sender and light on the tractor that I would ever seen the drops in pressure. I don't think it's enough to trigger the light. I have a mechanical gauge installed.
