On the left side of the 1500D there are two levers. The white one is for PTO and has two positions foward and back. The red one I assume is for 4x4 and has a foward and back position. Is the back position of the red 4x4 lever for 4x and the forward for 2x? Does anyone know the proper gear positions for the PTO (white knob) and the 4x4 (Red knob) for brush cutting? Also what gear range should I use High or Low (the lever on the right side)

There are three PTO speeds. 1 is back, 2 is foreward (I might have these backwards--I always have to check when I start cutting) and 3 is down and forward, as I remember. Use 1 with a rotary cutter, in whatever transmission gear you feel comfortable with, with the engine at the redline on the tach. 4WD is engaged with the lower knob back. I haven't found need for 4WD while cutting. You didn't mention it, but an overrunning clutch is a necessity with a rotary cutter, too.

Yes the red lever back is 4x and forward is 2x. The PTO lever should be in the lowest speed (540) which is back on my 1500D. As for the hi/lo range selector, it will depend on the mowing conditions. If you find you are going too fast or the tractor is lugging in hi range 1st gear then drop it into low range and choose a higher gear.
