Hmm, you made yours out of 3/8" stock. Hoye told me he used 1/8" so that is what I told my students to make me. Now I'm wondering if it is too thin. I bet they made them today, too. If they haven't, maybe I should take it to at least 1/4" stock.

Thanks for the upgraded drawbar info. I haven't gotten to designing that yet. No lights in my corncrib, where the tractor is parked, and another storm is rolling in here. I'd like to look at it and measure in the sunlight. One thing I can do is draw blueprints. And, geometry is my specialty, one of the problems I was trying to work out about where to install the sway chains, but you thought of the obvious solution to getting them in the same plane. I won't need a drawbar often but it would be nice for using my little dump utility cart for gardening purposes. And I'm sure there will be times I would like to use it for pulling.

You know I said 3/8" thick, but now that I look at them in the pic, it looks more like 1/4"...........

If they haven't made them yet, I'll tell them 1/4" stock. If they have then I will use them and if they bend or break, then I'll go to 1/4" on the next set.

Ok, I used 1/4" stock and made brackets that slide onto the same pins the lower lift arms do (7/8" hole did it). There are 1/2" holes on the other end of the brackets for the sway chains. I crossed the chains to attach them to the holes in the lower lift arms. I hooked up the 5 foot finish mower, lifted it as high as it would go, and made some pretty tight circles in the back yard to make sure the mower didn't hit the tires and all seems to be well. Thanks to everyone for suggestions and pictures.

Here is a diagram of the way we normally do the 1510 sway chains. It is fairly simple but seems to work well. At the time you asked I could not find this picture but I stumbled on it while looking for something else. The "sca-1510" are the 1/8 or similar flat steel pieces and are actually bent slightly towards the direction of the sway chains.

The "tractor" piece is the factory rear axle housing where the factory lower lift arm pins are located. We just use all of the factory pieces, just add the adaptor and go. A drawbar would be nice for other things though too.

I made brackets based on the pic you sent me, only they are 1/4" stock. I am in the process of getting a drawbar made. I measured and drew it up over the weekend and gave it to the machine trades students Monday. They showed me the unpainted version yesterday and it looks good. Oh by the way, the rubber plugs were covering drilled and tapped holes under there. I had my students put a slight oval for the holes since my measuring could be off a tad. Pretty hard to lay under a tractor with a ruler and flashlight and get perfect measurements. The holes appear to be 11mm in diameter. If anyone wants to see the finished product, let me know and I'll post pics for you along with dimensions if you like.

I'm interested in seeing what you and your students came up with.

We have a 1510D and I am also interested in seeing what the drawbar looks like.

I had to do the same on my Mitsubishi. Fortunately I had one that could be duplicated. The bolts for mine have the same threads as the lug bolts. Could be the same way on the Yanmar.
