1533 Loss of Hydraulics

   / 1533 Loss of Hydraulics #11
If someone else has this happen, I would like to know if CDsdad's method will work for all the larger 1500 series. I know that you don't have to do anything special to the larger 1200s or 1400s. I am just curious as to the difference between the 1500s and the others. If someone can remember to ask their dealer, please post what it is here on TBN. If not, I will look at the shop manual the next time I am at the shop.

Hey timpar. My 1533 did the same thing. I don't know where the bleeder screw is, but I kept working the steering wheel and I put the tractor in gear and moved it back and forth as much as I could with the loader down. Eventually I worked all the air out and everything started working again.

I haven't talked to the only other guy I know with a 1500 series to see if he's had the same problem. He also has a 1533. I've got to go to an out-of-town dealer when I get home and I'm going to ask him about the 1540s, 47s, and 52s. The local guys have only sold about 8 of the new 1500s, so they're still learning, too.

My hydraulic specialist (Dad) said being airbound after servicing was a common problem on the forklifts and equipment they had when he was fleet manager at a poultry company. I know that's not apples to apples, but he's a better source of experience and info than my dealer.

I have ordered a shop manual to save on telephone calls to the dealer.

There are 2 hydraulic pumps on the side of the engine. The front one is for the steering, the back one is for the 3 pt and the rest of the hydraulics. On top of the pumps are a round manifold block, kind of looks like a hockey puck. The bleeder plug is screwed into the side of the manifold. Loosen up plug enough to bleed the air out of the system while the engine is running. You will actually see air bubbles coming out. Don't loosen in up to far or the plug will fall off and you will have a mess.

Thanks Jeepcj7. Loosened front scre, a little air escaped. Loosened back screw, let the foamy oil run until "clear". Hydraulics working now!
Thanks for all replies,

When I changed my hydraulic fluid in my 1533 a couple of weeks ago, I had the same problem. I tried to post here, but it took too long to get my account working:mad: , so I went to my dealer. They said just unscrew the filter a little and bleed the air out. This worked:) , but also bled out quite a bit of fluid:mad: . Now I gotto go get another gallon of fluid.

BTW, the manual says it takes 8.something gallons. I have a 1525 FEL, factory mounted. I put in 10 gallons, and I don't think it was quite full. I can't find where it says how much fluid the FEL requires...anyone who can tell me or le me know where to look?

Thanks!
