Tractor
MF 1540 4wd,loader, R-4s
Hi, i am getting ready to buy a 1540 4wd hydro it will have 10-16.5 front and 17.5l -24 rear R-4s, foldable ROPS, grille guard, joystick valve, 1525 loader, skid steer quick tach, 66" H.D. bucket. The price i got for all this was $22,600.

Then I priced a Bush Hog 750 backhoe, 3-point mount, power beyond, 12" H.D. bucket $5,375.

This tractor will be replacing a ford 1320 4wd loader. I will need it to mow, do chores around farm and mow, rake, bale 5 acres of hay half flat ground half moderate hill.

My question is will the hydro hold up to baling with MF 12 baler, or should i go with 12x12 trans.

The tractor i am using now is neighbors Farmall H, and my big Case 800 gas hog to do the hay but i just want the 1 tractor to do everything. (running out of sheds to store all of them)

Thanks
RyanL

I wouldn't want the hydro for use on the baler. I'm not even sure that I would use a baler for this size of tractor. Compact tractors of any brand are not made as heavy in the transmission and pto as utility tractors are.
That is a good price for backhoe, but I would be afraid of a three point mount. A subframe is a lot safer.

I have run the baler behind the ford 1320 but it don't have enough HP, the thing i found funny is the baler didn't rock the 1320 back and forth as bad as it does the the Farmall or Case.

I also thought about the tranny.

I would recommend you going with the 12x12, much better for that type of work. I would also think about stepping up to the 1547, if not to a 400 series machine like the 461 4wd. Good luck and keep us posted.

I would check with your dealer before buying a 3pt hitch backhoe for the 1500 series. I believe I saw in their sales book that a 3 pt backhoe would void the warranty

Well, I decieded i don't have the funding right now for a backhoe so i'm in the process of getting just the tractor and loader with a few other options.

As a price comparison, I'm looking at a 1540 w/ 8x8 tranny and r4's for $17,790, 1525 loader for $3,546, a MF Backhoe w/ 16" bucket for $6,189 and a MF Post hole digger w/ 9" auger for $825.

Don't install a 3 point mounted backhoe on any brand compact tractor while its still under warranty. I believe almost every large mfg (MF, Kubota, Deere, NH) will void the warranty if the failure can be attributed to the 3 pt backhoe. Most good backhoe mfg's will offer a full subframe for the major compact tractor brands. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I got the tractor without the backhoe. It is a beast. Will post pics soon. What i got is a 1540 4wd, 10-16.5 front R-4's and 17.5L -24 Rear R-4's loaded. 1525 loader, skid -steer quick tach, 66" H.D. bucket, 48" MDS pallet forks, Tractor -mounted joystick, and used new holland 451 sickle bar mower.
