Our John deer 1600 wam keeps shutting down for no reason. Just mowing along and she quits??? Had it to the dealer spent 4000.00 still not fixed. They went through the fuel system, replaced the ignition switch. Anybody know what is causing this. Acts like it ran out of fuel. Will restart, mow for a while then shut down again???

Probably is running out of fuel. The trick is to find out why... maybe start at the fuel tank end and follow through to the fuel injectors, or start at the other end and follow back to the tank.
Fuel may have algae in it, or debris sliding over the pickup tube, or debris elsewhere in the system. A pain to track it down, and time consuming at best.
Good luck.

Make sure the fuel tank vent is not plugged up.

last year when this started the dealer cleaned the entire fule system out. We have put more than a few tanks of fuel through it. Is it possible the fule shut off valve is intermittent?

It depends on how it works, my Toro Groundsmaster applies 12 volts to shut it off. If yours needs 12 volts to run, then it could be bad.

Does it always run about the same amount of time before it shuts down?

Where is the vent? Run it with the fuel cap loose, if it doesn't shut down, the vent is plugged.

It will be ok for awhile then it starts. It becomes pretty regular 6 or 7 mins between shutdowns. I will try loosing the fuel cap. and make sure the vent is good.
