1610D 24 or 30 inch scoop

What would be best for my 1610D, a 24" or 30" scoop? Will the 30" fit? Will the arms from the 3pt hitch rub the tires with the 30" scoop? How can i reduce the sway of the 3pt hitch? Would i be able to use wheel spacers? Does anyone make them for my model? Lot of questions...

Tightening the turnbuckles/sway chains on each lift arm will reduce the sway of your 3 point lift arms. Personally I would got with the 24" scoop on a tractor the size of yours.

I have a 1700 and use the 30" scoop. I had to add about 180lbs to the front to use it. I also changed out my lift arms to something more like the arms of an 8n.. go tthem for 35 bucks a piece at TSC.. the generic ones. My wheels were turned out as well. I used an x shaped chain assembly to prevent sway on the 3pt. I modify it slightly when using something on the pto.

Probably a 24" is better for your setup. The 30" took a few mods to my 1700 ( as I mentioned above ) to make it work.
The 24" will also give you a little more weight allowance for payload.

Thanks for the information. I noticed that the arms rub a little when i have my 5 foot finish mower on it also. Would the lift arms you mentioned solve my problem with the rubbing. It looks like i dont have much room to adjust the sway chains. I have the threaed bolt with one link on the bottom. Do i shorten it up or lengthen it?

You can turn the Hitch pins (the pine the lift arms hook to on the implement) to the inside if you have not already done so.
To reduce sway, tighten the linh in you chains.

First thing you have to realize is that if you add longer lift arms to your tractor you will need to add more weight to the front to keep the nose down. I am not sure what you are talking about with a threaded bolt with one link. Most sway chain set ups are a turn buckle with chain on each end. When you shorten the turnbuckle it tightens the lift arms and at the same time spreads them further apart. If you loosen them and make them longer chances are you will get the same tire rubbing problem because of the slack. Your implement will sway side to side. You will get major tire rub on inclines. Are your rear wheels turned out so that the space between them is wider? One solution is to invert the hitch pins on your equipment. Instead of pointing outward, take them off and point them at each other. Loosen the sway chains so that the lift arms will attach and then retighten. Good luck.

I have the 30" on my 18Hp 186D. I had to add front ballast, but no wheel rubbing problems. I did manage to break my tranny housing backing into a dirt pile too fast. I had to build a larger adapter plate for the top link, but it works fine, now.
