I just got my tc35d with a 72" bucket on the loader. I've seen some thing that talk about a HD 72" bucket. Are there 2 different buckets or are there just one std 72" from the factory?
One reason is that last night I was "testing" out the capabilities of my new tractor/loader and I was poping out a few small stumps and I put a little bit of a wave in the bottom of the bucket where I was lifting this stump. It's right in line with the loader arm. I did this without even pulling the rear wheels off the ground. I would think the bucket would be built to handle most anything the loader arms can give it. I'm now looking to add some more steel to the bottom to stiffen it up more.

gmason,
I do believe there are two different buckets for the 16LA and the 17LA FEL which will fit your TC35D.

I'm wonder why you weren't pulling the stump hook to the center of your bucket.

Be careful and enjoy.

Gmason,

When I purchased my TC45D with 16la loader I chose the heavy duty 72" bucket. It appeared to be much more sturdy compared to the regular duty bucket.

Gary,

I wonder if a toothbar/bolt on cutting edge would reinforce the bucket enough for the task you describe. I'm really not sure which bucket I have (lighter duty I guess). Is there any obvious way to tell which one I have?

The heavy duty loader bucket has holes along the cutting edge so you can add a cutter bar making the bucket even more rugged. The two-edged, reversible bar is available for about $175. A little expensive, but a great aid to cutting into clay or cutting through tree roots. Also, my NH dealer said said something about the pipe-top edge and heavier construction for the HD bucket. My manual says the HD bucket is about 30 lb heavier too. Of course, my manual also talks about a "QT" quick-attach bucket that I am told will be available later this year (probably after NH sells all it's std. buckets). Hope this helps.

Think about it Tom, if it was in the center where there is the greatest span from any bracing, your chances of bending a weak bucket increase. Of course lifting of center risks a bent loader arm, but it has been my experience that the loaders are built pretty tough and I have yet to do it. The lighter duty buckets are apt to bend even with what appears to be a relatively small force, especially with bucket curl. The bonus of the lighter bucket is increased material weight. Rat...

Thanks all NH'ers, A couple of answers...I was lifting in line with the left loader arm, because the bucket has a small reinforcement bar steel running back to front right there and I thought that would give me good strength.
I din't have any counter weight on the back of the tractor, just filled tires.
Here's a point of contention, I would hope that these loaders/loader arms in particular would be over constructed/designed to withstand just about anything we can throw at them without BENDING. If the hydraulics can withstand the force the arms certinally should. I could see if you drop a car on the left outer corner of the bucket, you might see some bad results, but short of that I want great results. I understand that the removable loaders are a little bit lighter than the fixed loaders.
I didn't harm the loader arms in this case, as far as I can tell.
I didn't hardly get light in the rear lifting this stump. I used to stand my b2400 several inches on it's nose trying to get a stump to budge and never had a problem with the arms or the bucket.

jinman, welcome to the tbn board, are you shopping around or do you have a NH already. My bucket is grey and does have holes on the outside near the bottom of the bucket that it looks like you could attach a toothbar or something.

30lbs doesn't seem like that is enough that it could be a heavier guage metel for a bucket that size.
Are you looking at the 16la loader manual when your refering to "manual" or something else.
A toothbar should help to beef-up the front edge I'd hope.
My dealer gave me a price of $250 for that. He's checking on the HD bucket also.

Rat,
I guess I didn't give enough detail about my question.
I wasn't sure if the gentelman was on level ground when trying to pop the stump out...tractor safety.

I agree the strenght by hooking in the corner w/ a lite bucket.

gmason,
By the sound you know what your doing!!
I can't recall the relief pressure set point for the 16LA loader, but there set for the safety factor so you won't damage your FEL nor the operator.

Trying to figure out how to pop a stump can keep one sharp... /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif
