I've had my 15' Rhino bush hog behind the 9540 for a few days clipping pasture. This afternoon I thought everything had been going way too easy. I was right.

I was chugging along at about 4-5 mph and suddenly heard a bang, turned around and the mower was no longer attached! The hitch pin had worked its way out. No big deal, I said to myself, just pick it up with the FEL, reconnect everything and you'll be good to go. It would have been a 10 minute set back until I discovered that one of my hydraulic hoses had snapped at the fitting and the other one had snapped the coupler off at the valve!!

Now, I know you are going to say the hoses should have pulled free from the couplings with out breaking anything. But that part is my fault. The hoses are about 3' too long. To take up the slack I had put a small ratchet strap between the ROPS at the hinge point, ran the hoses from the mower, over the strap and down to the couplers. **Don't ever do that.** When the mower came loose and pulled on the hoses the strap caused them to pull up on the couplers, instead of straight back.

Lesson learned.

Kubota quick coupler - $70, not in stock.
Hydraulic hose with ends - $100, after $25 off.

That's not good at all, I'm sorry to hear about the bad luck, hopefully you will get it back together soon and hopefully it won't happen again.

At least the stump jumper, blades , and spindle didn't fly off.

Are you referring to the quick disconnect couplings?... if so...unless I'm ignorant of the fact (quite possible)...all the qd's I have seen will not disengage themselves under tension without moving the slip ring...?

The Kubota has a simple push/pull set up, no rings.

You didn't trash the PTO shaft? You got lucky there.

The tractor end was laying against the draw bar, just spinning away. The mower end was just sitting on the ground, also spinning away.

Do you know how long a 15' bush hog will flywheel when disconnected from the tractor while running at 540?

A very L O N G time.

OK thanks, my '95' B has typical slip ring couplings...any after market suppliers of those type couplings?

DT86 hope things go better for you today. that looked like something i would do. do you have to order them hoses cause of the special fittings?

When the dealer delivered our M9540 and batwing, he apparently didn't connect the lines properly. It didn't take long for one to come loose and get chopped up by the Bush Hog :(

I don't trust the hitch pin on the drawbar, I've lost the clip pin a few times in heavy grass. I've added a heavy safety chain in case it comes loose. With our steep hills, I'm afraid that if it comes loose, it will take off to parts unknown.

I bet your hoses were too short and they pulled out while turning.

I'll be putting a bolt with a lock nut in place of a hitch pin next time.

I broke one on my M6800. The coupler on it has a fitting between it & the valve. The coupler doesn't screw dorectly into the valve. Anyway the fitting was $40 & a special order item from Kubota. l took the broken fitting to a hydraulic shop & got the same thing for $12. No coupler needed. The valve in your pocture looks the same as the valve on my M6800.

Sorry, somehow I over looked your question.
No the fittings are all the same, just the coupler is different.

I do that....PLUS a safety chain.

The qd coupling on my AC didn't disengage when the turn plow let go of the clevis. The hose stretched a fair distance before before I could stop. Another time, the elbo broke saving a more expensive repair.
