The breather plug whih I ordered last week came in today. Eleven bucks with tax. Installed it this afternoon, and went on to run the brush hog for about an hour - no fluid running down the outside! Thankyou, guys for your insight. I knew the old plug was missing pieces, just didn't put it together with the "fluid all over" problem.

While I was there, I figured - a long shot - pick up a new oil preassure sending unit. (My oil preassure light has been staying on much of the time lately - used to be only at low rpm and I feared the worst - a bad pump.) They had it in stock, that piece was around 24.00, but brought it home screwed it in place, started her up, and viola! my oil preassure problem has been solved as well.

It's been a good day.

Good news:) , glad you were able to remedy your situation. Just a bit confused on the oil pressure. Did you change the sending unit or actually overhauled the engine oil gear pump ?. Repairing the oil pump is quite a bit more involved than swapping a pressure sending unit. I can see the sending unit about $25 but not the pump.

JC:)

P.s. Just make sure always that oil pressure light illuminates always when you put the key in and should go out couple of second after the engine has started.

JC,
The symptom was, the oil light came on with ignition switch, then went out - normal. Then it started coming on intermittently, became more frequent. Incresing rpm used to turn light out, but not latley.
I took the first step of replaced the sending unit. That was the trick. If that had not fixed the problem, the next step would have been the pump.
Now, all is well. The light comes on with the switch, goes off with oil pressure.
Sending unit - $25.00
Pump would have been a lot more.
The result - priceless.
It was a good day.

Good deal Bob,

There is something to be said about simplicity and ease of most major maintenance work with Ford 1000 series..that is priceless also.:)

Good job on the oil sender.

You'd be surprised how many tractor 'low oil pressure' problems I've fixed with a new 9$ cheapy auto parts store sunpro oil gauge.
