1705 wheel weights?

I'm rather amazed that the gc1715 is able to drive up or backup our winter slippery driveway where I can not walk up or drive my pickup up at times. The SCUT, on a concrete driveway on a good incline in Wisconsin winters is quite surprising in traction. It also works well when I need to go out on the lawn in up to 7 or 8 inches of snow with fel and snow edge on. And my turfs have never caused me pain because of puncture. In 3 years I've only ever had 1 flat tire and it was because I hit a glancing blow to a landscape block which caused the bead to shift. Supplying reinflated and away I went.

R4's are not worth much IMO. I won't get them again, the R1 would be better but the turf are better on the lawn and are easier to apply chains to and you get a more uniform fit of the chain on the tire.. The turfs have more contact to the ground than the rest..

I have R1 on my Massey 1705 and in my opinion they are the best tires for me and they don't tear up my yard when mowing but they work great for back blading and in snow and mud. They are a self cleaning so the mud Don't build up in the tread and they are wide so I have good flotation too.

I made what I call a belly weight it goes on to the mower lift arms and weighs about 150 lbs. It helps when I have back blade on but when you drop the blade you lose the weight on the back wheels but with that I at least have some extra weight on the back tires. I made it for my GC 1705 I don't have it totally done yet because it swings and it just barely touched the hydro filter and the first time I used it bent the filter plate. I will try to get some pictures next I have it on I got the mower on now.
I know this is an old post but I would love to see some pics of this. I was thinking the same thing. I have to remove the mower deck when using the FEL going through the paths in the woods up and down the hill. I think that extra weight really low would help a lot. I'm thinking about 300# on the rear hitch but lower in the center might be better.

If it hangs down low and you get in soft ground / mud it could hang you up.
Or in the woods a stump or rock.

I don't have any pics, but I ended up with a beer keg filled with gravel. I installed 3pt hitch pins in it and made a bracket for the top link. Estimated weight 250-300lbs.
I only have used it in winter for plowing, but I probably don't even really need it then. I have turf tires, and rarely spin.
With the 3pt you can lower it when needed and raise it for clearance.
