Are the hubs in the rear wheels of a 1715 centered inside/outside? Just wondering if they can be flipped to pick up a few inches of width. Seems like some old school tractors you could do that.

Lug holes could be tapered .... not sure, I've never had one off.

I believe the owners manual allows the rear wheels to be set out for stability but the front wheels are to remain in the factory narrow position. The front axle and bearings can sometimes carry the load of the entire tractor, ballast and fel should the bucket be loaded too heavily hence the prohibition.

FWIW...If a tractor is on or was on a dealer's lot it is likely that the wheels have been narrowed up...

Yes sir you are correct, checked the owners manual and it says rear wheel tread width can be changed from 42.2" to 48.2" by reversing the tires (swapping sides I think that means) ... question is .... is mine already done .... I'll check tomorrow.

Not swapping sides, just turn the tire around so the valve stem is on the inside.

You need to swap sides and not turn inside out to get the tread facing the right direction for R1 and R4 tires. I assume you have R1 AG tires on a 1715. I do not think you can do the swap with turf tires since the wheel offset is so deep already.

I heard this, but never "got it".
If a rim has a dished offset (or inset) that makes them narrower or wider, I don't see where the direction of the rim offset puts any less "lateral torque" on the bearing, it just puts this torque in the opposite direction.

That is: a deep rim offset set wide would want to pry the bottom of the bearing out, and push the top in; whereas if you flip the rim, the same offset now wants to pull the top of the bearing out, and push the bottom in.
The leverage distances, and forces are all the same, just reverse direction.
Is my thinking wrong?

Now if you're changing the offset distance by how the inner rim "dish" mounts to the outer rim, yes it would effect bearing loadings. .

Correct, I was talking about turf tires which it sounds like the OP has.
I flipped my rear turf tires when I first got my 1510 as the manual said could be done.

I have the 11.2 x 24 AG tires .... measured them, 42" right now, yep I can swap sides and gain 6 inches of tread width ... can come in handy on my hilly property.

Also it will move the valve stems to the outside, real pain having them on the inside right now.

In a month or so it's going in my shop to get one of the rear rims replaced .... rusted out ... I'll be ordering a new rim and welding it to the old hub which will be fine after some painting.
