1720 will not engage 4WD

Went out this morning to clear the driveway and my 1720 will not engage 4WD. The lever go's down but nothing happens. It only has 147 hours on it and has never done anything but move snow brushhog and haul wood. Any suggestions out there?

How cold was it? Do you think frozen moisture might be the culprit?

hi raise the front of the tractor off the ground with the loader then will moving forward try to engage the fwd Gary

Well right after I went out and played with it I got it to engage. Raised the front end and lowered it. Moved it fwd etc. Got it to engage. The neighbors must of thought I was crazy. I was out in an open field pulling snow to ensure the 4WD was working.

Alan, just a note of clarification, you say lever "goes down" but as I recall, my old 1720 required pulling the lever up in order to engage the 4wd. In fact in order to remember this myself, I painted an orange band around the lever shaft, that only showed when the 4wd was engaged and the lever was pulled up. When it was down and in 2wd, the band was hid below the shaft guide hole. Glad it's all working now for you.
