175 landhope axel

anyone know where I can get an axel for my tu175f? Its the front passenger side (right side as your sitting on it). I'm not sure if other axels will fit but I got some measurments on it. Approx 11 in long (maybe just a hair less its hard to tell since it was twisted off) the center section where there are no splines is 22.0 mm thick and the spline section is about 19.78mm thick. I'm sure its a stupid question but can it be welded not sure because of the balancing issue. Any help would be great.

an axel does not weld good. The weld will pull the carbon from the axel to the weld. It will brake next to the weld. It turns slow enouph that balence is not a problem.

I agree with Mopacman, axles are not really compatible with welding, but it can be done. The problem isn't balance as much as run out problems between ends (bent axles chew up other pieces). Axles are difficult to weld absolutely straight, but grinding each side down like pencil points, then running stringer beads while alternating sides and peening well is possible. The fellow I used to work with set them up in an old engine lathe once they were tacked and used the heat of the welds to straighten the shaft while building it up. (turning by hand). Using a dial indicator, you can minimize the run out problems if you take your time. We had good luck with some and no luck with others, probably due to heat crystallization.

If you can't find a replacement, I would try machining one up or talk to a machine shop. Making an axle is not that difficult. If you live in an industrial area, there are many machinists or mill wrights that would have the expertise necessary.

Since I don't have a TU175 parts book , I had to contact Japan for more information & pricing. If anyone has a parts book, I'd be interested in purchasing a copy. I'll contact you when I have more information. I have a parts tractor that may have the correct part, but won't know until I can get a part #.
