18 ft car hauler trailer rebuild

/ 18 ft car hauler trailer rebuild #21
Starting my trailer overhaul. I'm having a hard time finding 18 foot long boards. Anyone have a source in north Georgia?

Give SI Storey a call. They're located in Armuchee, just a bit north of Rome. I'm guessing they might be about an hour west of where you are. While they don't do hardwood, they should be able to get you the length you are looking for in PT/Non-PT, dimensional or rough cut pine. I've talked to them a couple of times and they were helpful folks and their prices were reasonable.

I needed 20' pressure treated for my trailer. Ordered it from Lowes, and was just a little higher than the longest they had at the store.

Around here there's guys who have large portable mills that go to the logs (vs having the logs brought to them). Often you can give them a call and tell them what you are looking for and they will get you a good deal on rough cut white oak. I'm not sure white oak would buy you much over PT yellow pine though.

Yes, it's a landscape trailer. Does it have 5 lug wheels? If so its got 3500# axles so 7000# GVWR. That trailer with a spare tire weighs about 1500# so that leaves you 5500# payload.

I would just make sure your tractor and accessories like loaded tires, FEL, ect don't exceed 5500#

Chris

Yes, it has 5 lugs.

Guys, I found some oak flooring that I like. It's a mix of red Oak and White Oak. I have read somewhere that I only want to use White Oak. Is that what you recommend? Or with the mix be okay? Thanks again.

Around here white is what is used because it's resistance to rot. Red, not so much.
