yep.. the farther to the rear you go with the weight, the more mechanical advantage it has.. keeping in mind that the rear wheels are the fulcrum.

...and, even when it's riding on the tail wheel, there is still half the weight (or more) hanging on the rear of the tractor. Really helps the steering to have a little weight on the front, particularly if you're turning on uneven ground and the tail wheel of the cutter is bouncing off the ground.

I agree, go with the 20'er. The price difference is not that much.

Taking the loader on and off is not something I want to do on a regular basis. I've never had my loader off.

You shouldn't have a problem driving over rough rock, you just have to go slow. Or you could stop like Chris said and only take the tractor the last mile. Only problem with that is you leave your vehicle out of you sight and possibly subject to vandalism or maybe not depending on where you live.

Turning an 18 or a 20 also doesn't make too much difference unless you are talking about 90 degree turns but that would be tough with any trailer.

For reference, here's an ad photo of an 18 sitting next to a 20. The difference is minor. I never really notice a trailers length until the deck gets out past 24 feet... then they become mailbox catchers real quick.
