You better patent that. Looks pretty sweet /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Excellent!
I really like the thumb attachment too! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Very nice.

The 30 degree angle on it is pretty sweet. I wish the stock backhoe was like that, as the quick attach plate doesn't swivel quite far enough to get a good bite sometimes.

Nice thumb.

Want to trade?

I purchased the 9" and 16" buckets and cylinder from a company in Canada. I had a local welder fabricate it to my design and specs. the thumb was cobbled together using two 16" box blade shanks from Agri supply.

Tim in CT.
The arm is set at a 40 degree angle so I can dig deeper and move around easier. the digging depth is 4'6"

Nice job!! Will the thumb stow above the curl cylinder or do you take it off for digging. Does the angle mass works better than the straight one. How well will the 180 handle the 16” bucket? Thanks for the pics. more more more???? /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I will let someone else ask about costs.

The 40 degree arm allows me to dig closer and deeper. the 16" bucket works great for softer soils. I plan on adding bolt on teeth to the 16" bucket. For now I have to remove the grapple to dig but I will be making up a fold back backet for it.
The two dipper arm sections were back cut at a 20 degree angle, so the front arm section is offset 40 degrees to the attachment plate. When I get a chance I'll post a picture of the backhoe in a travel postion. It will be easier to understand why I had it built that way.

One more picture from a front view showing the 1/4" plate sister welded to the OEM lift arms to beef them up.

Nice!! I always thought that my pt would handle a 12” bucket and with the info you have given us I will most likely go ahead and built it the 16 inch one. How about when you get a chance post a pick of it. Thanks for sharing the pics and the ideas.

Beechwood,

You are certainly "da man" and the bucket + thumb is "da bomb"
We should get you and stray together to have a "dueling MIGs" contest /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Tracdoc.
I wish I could take credit for the welding but my knowlage of welding is "o".
I have a friend who is a welder by trade so I do carpentry work for him when he needs something built and vice-versa.

Very nice work indeed. Inspiration for the rest of us 180 owners. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Thanks for the pictures.

Beautiful job. Looks like it just came out of a factory production.
Not sure if this applies or not, with the amount of stress my mini hoe puts on the center pivot pin with the small bucket, do you see any problem with the larger bucket?

Great job! What kind of control lever setup are you using for that added third hydraulic circuit?

Kent
The OEM 2 spool valve is a Sauer Danfoss . I bought the same configuration in a 3 spool valve from Sauer Danfoss.
I had to enlarge the mounting area and cut a larger hole in the side of the tunnel for the extra hoses. The old 2 spool valve will not go to waste, I'm planing on mounting it on the left side of the steering console for future use. I'll hook it up using the power beyond port from the three spool valve or vice-versa.
Just a note to any 180 owners. Do yourselves a favor and remove the lift arm hoses from behind the cylinder bracket.
I didn't notice the rubbing from the cylinder end until it was to late, /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Cool!! Looks like two bolts and the buckets are swapped. Don’t go to any trouble but when the hoe is mounted to the trailer I’ll look forward to a pic of that. Thanks for this pic. Love that big bucket!!
