The motor on the bush hog loses lots of hydraulic oil when in heavy use.

Any ideas on whats wrong? It also seems weak, heavy grass will pull it down. Thanks

That sounds like something's wrong. I've got the 96" rough-cut mower on my 1850 and haven't experienced either of those problems.

I can bog it down if I hit *really* tall stuff (like, over 5 feet tall). But I have to slow down anyway because I can't really see where I'm going.

Sure sounds like a seal is out of it.

If the bushhog is pulling down but not the engine on the PT that would seem to back up the blown seal theory.

Unless the coupling from the orbital motor to the rest is complicated it should be a 30 minute fix excluding travel time to get the seal .

The bypass valve should open, but the engine shouldn't pull down, unless there is a significant additonal load on it.

True but if it's pushing out the seal before it reaches the pressure the bypass is set at?????

OOPS ok I see what you're saying....

I wonder if the bypass is working?

Or maybe just a bad seal, fit. They said they would send me a new motor, if it kept leaking....Now I can let it sit for a few days. But I'd like to be sure the bypass is OK, b4 getting a whole new motor.

I believe that you can check out the relief valve by connecting the hoses to the motor together and operating the PTO lever or switch momentary. If the relief valve is working, you will hear it whine or clatter.

I also took my relief valve out and sent it back to PT for testing.

Do the easy things first.

Maybe your pump is bypassing internally and not building up enough pressure.
