One of the perks of the company I work for is I can earn Cabelas Gift Cards. I've saved up a pretty good stack with the intent of buying a 1911 for concealed carry. I'm partial to the Ruger SR1911 but a entry level Kimber is near the same price. Anyone have actual experience with both? Or why would you pick one over the other?

I have a Kimber, full size. I bought it when Kimber was new and only offered a few models. It was very tight new and needed breaking in. Me personally can’t image carrying a full size 1911 every day. Heavy and large.

I usually carry a Sig P938 in a pocket holster. It's kind of a mini 1911 I suppose. Very convenient and I never leave home without it. Better a smaller pistol in my pocket than a larger one at home or left in the car.

If I'm not carrying that I have a Para Ordinance CCO in 45ACP that's my bigger gun. Has their Light Double Action trigger which is nice. Have several other 1911 but just shoot those for fun.

Not entry level Kimber, but I'm a huge fan of their CDP model for all day carry. They make one in 3.5" bbl. Could easily forget you had that on. Still surprisingly easy to hit with, even with it's light weight and short bbl.

I have an older Kimber TLE from the early 2000痴 and it痴 got over 10,000 rounds through it and had been flawless.when I first got it I polished the feed ramp and did a little polishing work on the fram rails . Now all I do is keep it cleaned and lubed and change the recoil spring every 3-4 thousand rounds and it keeps shooting. It likes WWB the best but will feed JHP just fine. I致e looked at the Rugers and admit they are Very nice 1911痴 for the $$$.

I personally would consider a nice S&W, or a Sig Sauer. I have a Kimber .45 1911, but like my Smith and Sig Sauer's better.

I carry a stainless Pro Raptor II in .45ACP as an everyday carry. The 4" barrel and 8+1 magazine capacity makes for a nice carry combination in a 1911. A Kimber Ultra or Pro size is doable for an everyday weapon. It is just what you get used to. I would say personally that a Kimber will be nicer fit and action than the Ruger but that is just me.

Thanks Coralhead for your reply. The Ruger gets very very good reviews in nearly everything I read and I'm a Ruger fan. But for the same or near the same $ I may get a bit more "fit and finish" with a Kimber If anyone else has some Kimber vs Ruger experience please holler back

Yes, it is. But I carried one every day for several years, both in a Safariland duty rig and and inside the waistband custom holster. A lot of hours after hours in a suit and tie with my trusty Colt Gold Cup in my waistband. Along with a set of handcuffs, a collapsible metal baton and a spare mag. I am not saying a 1911 is ideal for CCW, but I am saying it is do-able. Or at least it was when I had a flat gut instead of a fat gut. :)
