I have a sub-compact Para and while it is small it is still heavy enough to walk your pants down after moving around for a while. The gun does shoot very well for its size and is a lot of fun.

I only have experience with the Ruger, but either gun will be a nice buy and fun to shoot.

Thanks for all the replys but I'm comparing Ruger and Kimber 1911s.
They are all clones of the M1911A1. Many use the same commercial parts. Pick the features you want. Generally the barrel bushing and slide tolerances are tighter as price goes up, you get better sights, forged frame, etc.

Sig and S&W have an external extractor, which most shooters consider an upgrade. Itç—´ what I would buy if I was buying a new 1911A1 pattern pistol. Sold the Colt Gold Cup NM I had because the Sig P220 was so much better.

Don稚 hate them, just more interested in the real McCoy.

Also have a Systema Colt, which we use to let people experience the muted joy of firing a military M1911 without wearing out a collector item. Don’t shoot the WWII Ammo as it has corrosive primers.

I'm looking at CCW; I am a big 1911 fan, but don't think I would want to carry that big pistol(physical size). I would look at the Glock and S&W single stack compacts.

In talking with others who have CCW and some background research, it was described that if you have to fire your weapon, and do stake someone down, that the police will most likely take your gun. You'll probably get it back, but that could be after court etc.

The feedback I have got,
- dont CCW with a weapon you dont want to lose to police or court
- Glocks and S&W poly frames are less expensive; if LEO or courts hold your gun, you don't want it to be an expensive one
- don't modify your carry gun

Garandman, thanks for the replys. How is an external extractor an upgrade from internal extractor unless I would regularly load from the ejection port? The availability of internal extractor parts vs external outweighs that option.

I have the Springfield Range Officer Compact .45 and really like it. I have carried it IWB a few times however, being retired and working on my land out in the sticks I carry it OWB on a daily basis.

Thanks Greg for the reply. I will likely do the same thing. IWB when I "go to town", OWB on the back forty. Have you found a holster that would do both well? Maybe one I can tuck beside truck seat while driving?

AWsubie thanks for the reply. What has been your experience with the Ruger SR1911? Detail.
