1998 NH 1920 4x4, non HSS. Engine recently rebuilt. Sat for two years during rebuild. Have not yet changed the hydraulic filter or fluid and when swapping an FEL hose, fluid appeared to be clear Hydraulic stuff as you would expect. I'm familiar with the diverter valve and it's operation.
Symptoms: If diverter fully CCW (all to FEL), there is a noticeable load on the engine, RPM's drop and FEL functions fine. Almost like it's binding up so pressure is building up somewhere and placing a load on the engine. Rotating CW the load free's up and engine RPM's climb back up as desired, but FEL only drops (Dump), won't lift or curl. Three point lift as expected does not lift when diverted all to FEL. Regardless of diverter position, 3 point lift does not drop fully, only about 25% of the way. Normally, at 11 o'clock on the diverter, you can operate rear and front hydraulics just fine. This is no longer the case. The noticeable load on the engine affects drive performance and where I used to be able to drive up my hill in 3rd/1st, now I have to drop to 2nd/2nd.
Facts: One FEL hydraulic hose sprung a leak and was swapped out. I don't think it's air in the lines as cycling through would normally move that along unless I'm missing something.
On engine rebuild, the hydraulic pump was not serviced but all hydraulics appeared to function fine after R&R. These symptoms started occurring well after the FEL hose was replaced.
There is a 757C backhoe and ports to connect hydraulics. This is not connected at present but was during storage.
Questions: I'm getting my shop manual back this afternoon but there are two fill points for fluids (non engine). The first is where the dipstick is, directly on top of the transmission between operator feet. This takes Hydraulic fluid correct?
The other is on top of the rear 3 point above the rear axle, which only has a large rubber bung. What does this one take? Hyd or 90 gear oil?
What trouble shooting steps should I take to diagnose the diverter valve issue?
Thanks in Advance from Placerville, CA.
