Looking at a picture of the 40U, it looked like the top of the air cleaner connection is lower than the manifold ports and why I thought it may have gas in it too. I had an MT years ago but sold it. Nice tractors.

I also had an M years ago. It ran well, but it had the worst seating and control layout ever. The 40 was much better, and I looked at them with envy but couldn't find one.
Take a look at that 40U in the photo. It had just over 20hp.... and then compare it with 20+ hp tractors today. There's a reason why those old tractors lasted, and still do. Those old industrial gas engines were real good, too. The whole tractor was industrial strength with oversized everything. They didn't break or wear out.
JD made a nice little FEL made for the 40s, too.
Masseys of that era just as nice.
