1953 Fd Golden Jubilee Stuck in Neutral

Hello all, first time poster here.

I picked up a 1953 Ford Golden Jubilee from my wife's grandfather that is in need of repair. Currently it will not go into gear. Here is his description of what happened:

He was attempting to pull start his John Deer with this Jubilee. At some point he shifted into neutral and now the Ford will not shift into any gears. The tractor rolls fine when pushed or pulled.

I have not attempted any problem solving of my own yet, but this weekend my father and I will begin to split the tractor in hopes we can figure out what is causing this.

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on what it may be or what we can try?

Sounds like shifter fork jumped out (if it was a car tranny it would be). Don't split it, take off the top cover. You'll prob want more info than I can give for what to look for inside.

Listen to the MAN, Just pull the top cover off and from what you say the shifter fork slopped of. But even if it is something else you will find out more than if you split the tractor. Ed

Thank you both I will do that! I may end up replacing the clutch anyway, as my wife's grandfather said he thought it was slipping before this occurred.

The shift fork appears to be in place and operating as it should

What has happened as stated the transmission is in neutral but the shift rod is in a gear.
If you have the cover off you should be able to put the rails back where they belong so you have neutral and all gears.
This is a common problem with shifters that get worn.

Finally split the tractor apart and the clutch was in pieces, so I discovered the problem. In addition the flywheel ring gear is chewed up and the pilot bushing is non-existent. Does anyplace sell a new flywheel that the newer style bearing fits in? Or is my only option to have a shop machine the current flywheel to fit a newer bearing?
