yanmar 195D (for sale)
Just to say hello! I'm a new owner of an old YM 195D. I don't see them much in discussions or information and I don't know a lot about it. I have purchased a 51" snowblower for it and am currently trying to front mount it as I have about 1200' of bush driveway to clear and A bad neck so backing up is not great. Also I live a lot farther north than a lot you good people so please forgive me if I type with an accent!!

The reason you don't see too much on the YM195D is because it is not a gray market tractor. Yanmar made the 195D among other models primarily for the U.S. market. And believe it or not, there are alot more gray market Yanmars in the US than those made for the US. The 195D is quite similar to the gray market YM1500D I believe. It is a fine machine and should serve you well.

Just out of curiosity, what snow blower did you get, and how are you powering it for the front mount?

The blower is a Ber-Vac 2 stage 3 PTH 51" wide. It was made in Quebec but I believe the company is gone now.
The unit is about 10 years old but like new. I'm still trying to figure out how I will power it. I've been toying with the idea of a hydraulic motor, but don't know yet how well it will work. Would love some help on this part.

Welcome!

As Greg noted, your 195D was originally sold by Yanmar-USA when they had dealers here. It is the same as YM1700D with some minor differences for the North American market, like the throttle lever is push rather than pull to accelerate, labels and manuals in English, and it probably came with adjustable width wheels and an overrun clutch in the PTO.

YM240 was similar to YM195 with slightly higher HP. That has larger-bore sleeves in the identical block and a water pump replacing thermosyphon. Both models share a single set of documentation - Operation Manual, Service Manual, etc. It looks to me that YM195 was introduced in North America simultaneous with the final version ('revision level 4') of YM240.

You can find a lot of relevant posts here in the Yanmar forum if you look under YM1700 and YM2000, which were the Japanese home-market versions of the YM195 and YM240.

Also, take a look at the original 1979 YM240 sales brochure in my sig photos. Is your YM195D green like that?

I've got some ideas, but without knowing what the existing drive mechanism on the blower is, its hard to know where to start. If you could get some digital pictures of the blower drive system it would help.

You have a number of options, hydraulic being one. However, I am quite certain that the tractor hydraulic pump will not have nearly enough flow to run the blower. You would need a different hydraulic pump to run it - either engine mounted, or rear pto mounted ($$$). A similar option would be electric, but again, you couldn't power it with the existing tractor electical sytem.

Personally, I would look at powering it with either front pto, or rear pto. Rear pto might be more straighforward since the blower is already set up for 540 rpm. But this requires either a belt or a shaft running under the tractor from rear to front. I have been toying with the idea of powering a front mounted mower deck from the front of my YM1110D. I was thinking of an additional pulley mounted to the front crankshaft pulley. I would then use a pair of idler/tensioner pulleys to redirect the belt forward to the deck. This requires some belt guides to keep the belt in the correct location and make sure that it disengages from the drive pulley when tension is removed. The more expensive option is to find a front pto to mount up there like I did for my YM1301D.

You can see some of the stuff I've done at my web page.

There's a Bolens/Iseki diesel front mechanical PTO drive on E-bay right now for only $125.00, for a 20-23Hp sized tractor. It mounts on the front of the frame, has triple belt drive and all the control cables, etc. It would drive direct off your front engine pulley with a splined shaft. Seems it could be fairly easily adapted to a Yanmar with a little fabrication.

Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Lots of good ideas. Yup, it's green like you show(at least it was). Have been considering a front pto as well. All I really need is a splined shaft to fit the adapter on the front. I can probably make up an electric clutch from an old A/C compressor. The drive is standard pto shft drive.
Hate doing business on Ebay, even though that's a good price and I wouldn't mind having it.

Veteran lurker, newbe poster. I've got a 186D that came with a 48" Bur-Vac 2 stage, front mounted. It uses a gear/chain drive off the rear PTO. Channel frame hung from drawbar with driveshaft to front. Hydraulics control lift and chute. Bought it in the US but I believe it spent it's former life in Canada. Old/ugly tractor but it's never let me down. I'll try to get some pics right away when I dig it out of the weeds (they weren't there when I put it there) to put back on soon (arrgh). Looks like a homemade/backyard setup, but it works well, throws snow about 15' (when it's not blowing back in my face). My driveway is 865' to road.

Skinman;
Would love to see some detailed pics of the setup. You're probably right about the origin. After all what self repecting American would do business with The Quebecois? LOL!!! Even some of us Canuks are a little reluctant.

I'll try to get some pics this weekend. It won't be on the tractor, but I'll try to set it up so it's layout makes sense. Snow blowing in your face at 20 deg. F. doesn't sound like fun until you see it gobble up 6 to 10" of snow 4 ft. wide and throw it 15 ft. As you watch it throw a tube(?) of snow you realize how much fun tractoring is. I giggled the first time I used it. What is your driveway surface. Mine was crushed limestone for 3 yrs and blacktop the last 2.
